In this afternoon's staff meeting it was agreed that each class should acquire some playground equipment of their own to be used solely by the class it belonged to. This could be sourced from the school's equipment and perhaps some small purchases made from the classroom budget. I've noticed many Year 5s bringing soccer balls to school to play with but I'd like some input from Year 5 and perhaps some ideas from other blog readers about what else we might need to acquire. I've made a list below and people can leave a comment to say if they agree with my list or some things on it and they can also make other suggestions. I'd like to keep spending to a minimum as it comes from our class budget so if anyone wants to donate anything from our final list it would be much appreciated.
Class soccer ball
skipping ropes
tennis balls
elastics
marbles
chalk (I'll have to run this one past Mrs W)
grip ball
hoops
Big ticket items (We would only choose one of these for this year)
Giant Pick Up sticks
Giant Ludo
(both of the above can be seen here)
Rubber Horseshoe Game
Fun gripper Target Toss
(both of these cane be seen here)
Pop Up Goal Set

Hi Mrs Mc's class,
Great idea about your own sports equipment. At our school we have a sports bag in every room with skipping ropes, a basketball, netball, football, soccerball and plastic bouncy ball that we use for downball. We also have cricket bats and stumps, tennis balls, tennis racquets and frisbees. We used to have elastics but they broke. :-(
We have sports monitors who check in the equipment at the end of playtime and pack it back into the bag. We'd be lost without our equipment!
we think that this is a great idea mrs mac. we think that the pop up goal set would be good for grade 5 because we play alot of soccer.i think that all the balls and elastics are good and the whole class would love playing with them. Love the Idea and hope it works out.
Mrs C - What is "down ball?" We have never heard of it?
Downball may also be called four-square, although at our school it's also played against walls. It has a student in each square and they bounce the ball into the square of one of the other players. They keep bouncing it around until someone breaks a rule (only one bounce per square is one rule I know) then that person goes out and everyone rotates. The server is in "king" - they are apparently a hero. But they can go out just as easily as any other player. Hope this makes sense. :-)
